Mbife Community Library Project

Mbife Foundation is a non-governmental organization founded in 2023 and registered in The Gambia with the aim of addressing the critical need for increased literacy and access to books for youth and children in The Gambia. It is linked to the company Mbife Books which is a micro-enterprise, a publisher registered in Sweden and The Gambia.

The Mbife Foundation opened the Mbife Childrens’ Community Library in December 2023. The library aims to contain a wide range of books that promote inclusive and diverse literature to develop children’s well-being and love of reading. The library’s categories are intended to cover a range of relevant topics such as inclusion, socio-emotional skills, feminism and disability.

The library’s vision is for children to enjoy stories and books that stimulate their creativity and language skills at the heart of African diasporan culture.

Mbife Childrens’ Community Library is based in the city of Banjul, The Gambia. Volunteers will also work with mini-libraries in mobile boxes sent to communities to ensure access to books even in the most remote regions.

The Mbife Foundation is committed to build a reading culture and a love for books. Therefore, there will be a strong emphasis on reading aloud and other creative activities to allow the stories to come to life.
